How serious is strep throat?

Strep throat is most commonly seen in children between the ages of 5 and 15, however it can infect both children and adults of all ages.

Caused by streptococcus bacteria, the common symptoms of strep throat include fever, sore throat with white patches, headache, chills, loss of appetite and swollen lymph nodes. Strep throat symptoms generally improve within one week of treatment.
